HISTORY OF THE ACHUAR PEOPLE

The earliest information about contact between Western culture and the Jíbaros dates back to 1542, when the Bracamoro people of the Jaén region were conquered. Some experts believe the Bracamoro, who are now extinct, may have belonged to the Jíbaro linguistic family. The first record of the Jíbaro dates back to 1549, with the arrival of Benavente.
