Federation of the Achuar Nationality of Peru (Federación de la Nacionalidad Achuar del Perú – FENAP)
After the signing of the peace treaty between Peru and Ecuador, several bi-national meetings were held among various indigenous peoples along the border and in the Amazon region. One of the meetings was held in the community of WAMPUIK in neighboring Ecuador, where agreement was reached to organize a federation that would bring together all the Achuar organizations in Peru.
Following up the meeting in WAMPUIK, an assembly was held in the community of WASHINTSA on October 22, 2000, to officially establish the federation, which was called the Federation of the Achuar Nationality in Peru (FEDERACIÓN DE LA NACIONALIDAD ACHUAR DEL PERÚ, FENAP).
On the second day of the assembly, the representatives of the new federation were elected.
Jorge Fachin Tapayuri was elected president and Luis Tsamaren Kantash was elected vice president.
After a year of seeking funding, the Municipality of Pastaza provided the support necessary for FENAP to gain legal status as an organization.
The federation includes the local organizations ATI and ORACH.
