ATI was organized y 1985 by the communities of the Huituyacu, Manchari and Huasaga rivers. It currently consists of 18 communities. ATI stands for “Achuarti Iruntramu," which means “the Achuar who are meeting.”
The Apus elect ATI’s president and board of directors. Every three years, they hold an ordinary assembly for this election in the community of Wisum.
The board of directors consists of the president, vice president, two council members, a secretary, a health director and an education director. The organization is headquartered in the community of Wisum.
Every year, the Apus meet to discuss the development of the communities, addressing issues related to education and health. They also discuss issues related to petroleum, timber and mining companies.
The council members visit the communities in February and November to see if there are any problems and provide information about activities in which ATI is engaged, such as projects presented by NGOs. The Health and Education directors visit the communities in July and December.
